I Forgot What I was Watching!
You are watching Toonami. Four simple words spoken since the very beginning of Toonami’s broadcasting. Moltar said it, Tom v1.0 said it, Tom v2.0 said it, and even Sara said it! However it wasn’t until a few years ago that phrase disappeared from intersials and segments of shows, never to be heard from again. The dark times were upon us! By that time the 3rd hour has come and gone, Hamtaro had been on the block, and the wrath of reruns had taken it’s told on the average Toonami Fan’s spirit. Times were grim and a lack luster event called Lockdown didn’t help much either.
Prior to that event, Toonami got its first shock - a new Tom. Nobody ever expected Tom to be devoured by the big red blob, or for the same robot to blow off its own ship’s engines! Fans loved it, the Toonami spirit never had hardly ever been higher, and things were looking good, and they were - for a while.
Even earlier then The Intruder was the very first introduction of Tom v1.0. Before he was introduced, all broadcasting of Toonami came from Moltar’s control room on the Ghost Planet. On July 10, 1999 a new age of Toonami began - from the total revamping of the block which included a new location and a new logo, to the introduction of a new host, the bubble-headed Tom. While a lot of fans rejected the new host the new look did wonders for the block! With a new location and a new host, the possibility for adventures was practically endless.
Overall, one could assume that changes to the way Toonami looks and feels usually results in positive events and positive fan responses! However, you do know what they say about assuming? Starting Today, Monday March 17th 2003, Toonami’s 6th birthday a new Toonami is born. New Tom, New Absolution, New Line-up, and a New Logo.
That’s right, for the first time in almost 4 years the Toonami Logo will be changed! Things are looking up, no more reruns of DBZ (it’s going to be the last of the series!!), Transformers: Armada is gone, Kenshin starts, and much more seems to be coming to the block then ever before. Weeks after Giant Robot Week shrouded in controversy aired Toonami seems stronger then ever before, reorganized with a barrage of sweet promos, awesome contests, and a pretty cool on-line comic (oops did I forget to mention a new game too?)! I for one am looking forward to Toonami this year, they’ve started on a good note…but will they be able to keep it up?
Time tells all, and right now time’s showing us good things. For those of us who stuck with the revolution, time rewarded you. Viva La Revolution!
