Samurai Jack

In the distant past, a Japanese samurai embarks on a mission to defeat the evil shape-shifting wizard Aku. Before he can complete his task, Aku cataputs the Samurai thousands of years into the future where he finds himeslf in an unfamilliar, futuristic world, controlled by Aku. Dubbing himself "Jack", he sets out on a new quest--to right the wrongs that have been done by his enemy and to find a way home.

Samurai Jack has been a shoe-in for Toonami for quite some time. The series joined the block on Monday September 30th, 2003, and is known for it's sensual, unique, and artistic way of getting a story across. Often times entire episodes contain less then 3 lines of dialoge, while the rest is conveyed through actions, expressions, sound and music. It is also unique in the fact that, unlike traditional cartoons, Characters are not outlined in dark lines. This give the series a unique feel to go with it's unique approach to explaining the Samurai's journey to the viewers.

.:Misc.

  • "Aku" is Japanese for "Evil".

  • In Episode VIII, one of the bounty hunters in the woods that was riding a robotic elephant is a character from "Dial M for Monkey" from "Dexter's Laboratory."

  • "Dexter's Laboratory" is also created by Genndy Tartakovsky.

  • In the pilot movie, one of the dogs working in the mines is Big Dog from the shortly lived cartoon "2 Stupid Dogs", another show Genndy Tartokovsky worked on.

  • Genndy Tartakovsky also has a hand in the Powerpuff Girls series, as well as the Star Wars: Clone Wars micro Series developed for Cartoon Network.

  • As you may notice from the incredibly small VA list, a majority of Samurai Jack is conveyed through character expressions, scenic views, sound effects and music, rather then relying on large amounts of dialog.
