Sailor Moon

The original girl-power animé. Serena was just your average teenage girl; not that great in school, boy crazy, and loved sweets. One day, she met a talking cat, and her history and destiny were revealed. Turns out she's the Moon Princess from a Kingdom centuries past, and she is to save the world once again. Fighting against the Negaverse, she teamed up with schoolmates Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina, and fell in love with her prince, Darien. Together they beat the Negaverse, but that was not the end of the battles.

Serena has been joined by more Sailor Soldiers, including her future child. She fought valiantly against the Doom Tree, Black Moon, and more. Her greatest battle came when her final series couldn't be dubbed. Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, she is the one and only Sailor Moon.

The original run of Sailor Moon premiered on Toonami on June 1, 1998 and were the original DiC-guided episodes (they had replaced the original music and cut out a LOT of the original episodes of the "Classic" and "R" seasons). On November 30, 1998, the "lost episodes" of Sailor Moon R (previously seen in Canada) premiered on Toonami, and then On June 12, the often-controversial "S" season premiered on the block (These episodes were produced by Cloverway, the North American division of Sailor Moon's animation studio, Toei Entertainment). The series was the second-longest running show on Toonami outside Dragonball Z, and was in and out of rotation on the block often during its time there. Its last Toonami appearance was on the candy-coated Kids' WB edition in September of 2001. It was however on general Cartoon Network just prior to Toonami prior to disappearing forever.

.:Characters

Serena/Sailor Moon- The undisputed heroine of the series, this ditzy blonde is more than she appears. She's actually the reincarnated princess of the Moon Kingdom and the sailor-suited Sailor Moon. Serena loves to eat, doesn't love to study, and definately loves Darien.

Amy/Sailor Mercury- The blue-haired, shy, and brainy one. Most animés have one, and Amy is it. She's got the technical knowledge to back up her power of water and ice. Amy wishes to go into a medical profession to help people.

Lita/Sailor Jupiter- The tall fighter. She's the brawn of the group, using the power of thunder and lightning to destroy her enemies. She's a great cook, loves to clean, and thinks every guy looks like her old boyfriend.

Raye/Sailor Mars- The hot-head of the Sailor Scouts, Raye uses the power of fire to punish enemies. She's the spiritual one, usually reverting to meditation to figure out problems. She has had a somewhat relationship with wasted rock star Chad.

Mina/Sailor Venus- If the other Scouts have powers based on nature, ya gotta have someone with the power of heart (Hey, Captain Planet had one). Previously Sailor V, Mina moved to Japan to join the Scouts. She's constantly trying to get a boyfriend.

Rini/Sailor Mini-Moon- The future daughter of Queen Serenity, Rini came back in time.

Darien/Tuxedo Mask- The king of the moon kingdom, he was reincarnated as a boy who lost his family. Not having any true source of power, his trademark rose is his weapon. He's been turned evil, had dual secret identities, but always tried to keep a relationship with Serena.

Luna and Artemis- The two talking cats/mentors, Luna awoke Serena's Moon personality, while Artemis did so for Mina. They have a child in the future.

Amara/Sailor Uranus- The most masculine of the Sailor Soldiers, she was pivotal in later episodes by having to regretfully help the Sailors.

Michelle/Sailor Neptune- Cousin to Amara, she was more eager to help the Scouts in there time of need.

Trista/Sailor Pluto- One of the more mysterious Sailors, she rarely used a normal ID, instead playing a more pivotal role as guardian of time.

Hotaru/Sailor Saturn- Rini's weak friend and daughter of a villain, she turned out to be Sailor Saturn... for an episode or two.

.:Misc.

  • Oddly enough, Sailor Moon is a spinoff of the Sailor V manga. Sailor V really did occur before Sailor Moon.

  • Japan currently had a live-action sentai of Sailor Moon, entitled "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon".

  • Saban had almost acquired the Sailor Moon license in the '90s, and even made a live-action/American animation trailer for it.

  • Sailor Moon binomes make a cameo in one of the last episodes of Season three on ReBoot.

  • Sailor Moon, a victim of '90s dubbing, has had some changes. Most names were modified, a handful of episodes were skipped, two episodes were merged into one, etc. Nothing major. The American dub managed to keep the same feel as the original.

  • Some character changes from Japan to America- Raye's grandpa wasn't senile, he was a pervert. Chad was not a burned out rock star, he was a bum. Amara and Michelle weren't cousins, they were a debatable couple.
