ReBoot
In this High tech, modern aged day, I'm pretty sure that you know what happens when you turn on your computer, or do you? ReBoot, the first ever computer animated television series gives a unique twist to what really happens when you boot up. The show follows the lives of citizens who live in a futuristic city that is located in your computer called Mainframe. Bob, Dot, Enzo, Frisket and their friends must help insure Mainframe's safety by protecting its citizens against two residential viruses, games that the user plays, and more.
Debuting in 1992 on ABC, Reboot captivated fans of both children and adults for it's wide range of humor. After Disney bought ABC in 1994, ReBoot was cancelled and not seen again until 1998 when Cartoon Network aired the series' first two seasons and the third season, which previously had never been seen in the states. In 2001, Cartoon Network aired a fourth season, which the network alone with YTV helped fund. This season consisted of 8 episodes that followed the lives of our heroes and their struggle against a super virus named Daemon. The company that made ReBoot, Mainframe Entertainment, which is located in Vancouver Canada, has produced a variety of different shows such as Action Man, Weirdo's, Beast wars, and even the MTV Spiderman Series. One of their latest Productions, Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Sabotage will be Toonami bound later this year.
Bob - Bob tends to fly buy the seat of his pants through life. He doesn’t know where he’ll be in 2 nanoseconds, nor does he want to. Coming from the supercomputer, living life at random is what he does best and the way he likes it. This also allows him to successfully complete his purpose as Guardian of the system, which is to protect the city from games as well as viruses, code-masters, super viruses, and other such unexpected events. The phrase “opposites attract” also applies to Bob and Dot, as the two have a cliché ‘too-stubborn-to-tell-the-other-how-you-feel’ relationship.
Dot - Dot is a woman in charge. Commanding nearly everything in Mainframe, Dot has a rule, a plan, and a solution for everything. She is the owner of Dot’s Dinner located on Baudway, and has several stakes in almost every other company in Mainframe! She is also the command.com of the system, making sure it’s citizens are safe from games and the two residential viruses. Dot can is incredibly strong if not physically, but emotionally and mentally. She can quickly whip up a successful plan and bear heavy burdens.
Enzo - Enzo is Dot’s younger brother, to which the phrase “Curiosity Killed the cat” dangerously applies to a maximum degree. He’s just like an average ten year old; He wants to play with others, he’s very curious as to his surroundings and will explore them if nessisary, and he has a role model (Bob) who he wants to take after. This can cause some problems, as he’s always winding up in games or getting stuck between a rock and a hard place with Megabyte of Hexadecimal. He also finds himself lonely many a times, as most of the ‘sprites’ in Mainframe had been nullified when his father accidentally destroyed Mainframe’s twin city. This problem is solved when AndAIa winds up in Mainframe and the two fall in love.
Daemon - Is the word. A super virus that infected the super virus and the entire guardian collective, Daemon’s goal was to infect the entire net. Anyone who was infected by her would immediately be part of the collective which ends up being a cult like group. After infecting every guardian she discovers she only has one left who she needs in order to infect systems which can only be reached through portals. This guardian is Bob. Daemon has an extreme amount of strength, of which matches that of Hexadecimal, as well as enough power to destroy the entire net and everyone in it.
Hack & Slash- The classic bumbling idiot henchmen. Hack and Slash used to be one being formed with Skuzzy called Clash. They are extremely absent minded, and while working for the side of evil tend to show they very much have emotions. They’re easily scared, easily defeated, and most of the times wind up in numerous pieces. They also tend to argue with each other over the most innate of things. They are loyal however, and will carry out the instructions given to them until they are unable to complete they’re goal…which doesn’t take much to do.

- ReBoot was the very first entirely Computer Animated Series in the world. Debuting in 1994, it even surpases Toy Story in age, which was the first CGI animated Motion Picture in 1995.
- The ReBoot team started work in a hotel on Granville Island. As the show grew so did the team. They later moved to a hotel in West Vancouver. They soon grew out of that hotel as well, and wound up buying a store and setting up shop there.
- The original designs for Hexidecimal called for Hex to look like she did in season 3, but the technology at the time wouldn't allow it. When they finally had the means, they wove her change in appearance into the story line for the season.
- In the episode "Trust No one" actress Gillian Anderson lent her voice to her binary counterpart, Data Nully. A character spoofing her notorius role of agent Data Skully on the X-Files TV series.
- The odd looking citizens in the world make up several groups. Viruses, Sprites, and Binomes. Binomes are the small circle and square people (who represent the ones and zeros that make up binary code). Sprites are the people that look like humans.
- The cast and crew were ridden harshly, by ABC's board of Standards and practices in the early days of the show. Simple things like explosion sounds, a sisterly kiss to Enzo, and even in one instance...the word Hockey, was forbidden from being included in the final product. During the show's creation, the creators were even asked to tone down Dot's womanly figure, which resulted in the creation of what is often refered to as a "Monoboob". When the show lived on past ABC's harsh Saturday morning standards, they took the libery of freeing Dot from the horrible monoboob from which she'd be confined.
- Many battle images were edited out of the season two finale on ABC. The first time US audiences got to see these episodes was in the late 90s when Cartoon Network picked up the series for broadcast.
