The Prince of Tennis

Ryoma Echizen, the "Prince of Tennis," has just enrolled at Seishun Academy after spending several years in America winning four consecutive US Junior Tournaments. Although the rules don't allow 7th graders to play in tournaments, the Seishun tennis team captain has arranged for Ryoma to join the squad. Surrounded by incredibly talented and athletic teammates, and playing under the shadow of his famous father, Ryoma has a lot to live up to -fortunately, he's cocky enough to believe he can do it!

The Prince of Tennis was created by Takeshi Konomi, and initially joined the Toonami ranks as one of the launch titles for Tooanmi's online broadcast block - Toonami Jetstream. The series joined the On-Air block on December 23rd, 2006 at 10pm. Prince of Tennis' addition to the block marked an experimentation of sorts for the powers that be behind the block. Sports anime, especially centering around a sport such as Tennis, had never been tested in mainstream American TV before - making Prince of Tennis amongst the first of it's kind.
