Dai-Guard

The year is 2030, and the Earth has been at peace despite an invasion 12 years earlier by the dimension traveling Heterodynes. Just in case of their return however, the 21st Century Security Company has developed a 'sure fire' defense known as Dai-Guard, a gigantic mecha just waiting for action. Unfortunately, the mammoth robot, unwanted by the military that originally conceived it, lies untested and unused. That soon comes to an end however, when an enormous Heterodyne rises out of the ocean and attacks Japan. Although the military has given the order to evacuate the area, average salary man Akagi is determined to save the citizens in danger and eliminate the threat. He quickly convinces his co-workers Ibuki and the reluctant Aoyamama to assist him. With Akagi and his friends piloting Dai-Guard, Japan is assured to be safe from the Heterodyne. The question is, who’s going to save Japan from Dai-Guard?

Dai-Guard showed up on Toonami as part of a special 'Giant Robot Week' which ran from February 24th to 28th in 2003 (Dai-Guard airing on the 27th and 28th at 4pm). The event as a whole shocked Toonami fans everywhere, not only because of the inclusion of some of the most well known anime series to ever grace the states, but because of who licensed them. ADV, the well known distributer of anime who licensed most of the Giant Robot Week titles, had previously not been involved with Cartoon Network, while other distributors such as Bandai and Funimation had been forerunners in giving Toonami titles to air on the channel.
