One Piece

Just before the 'King of the Pirates', Gold Roger, let out his final breath, he told of a hidden treasure containing all the wealth he had ever owned. Now, pirates from far and wide have set off to the most-treacherous waters in the world to find the treasure, and one of them, the very optimistic Monkey D. Luffy, dreams of being the King of the Pirates.

As a boy, Luffy gained the power to stretch like rubber after eating the cursed fruit called the Gum-Gum. Although his rubber-like body comes in handy during battle, the cursed fruit also left him unable to swim. Despite this one minor setback, the still cheerful Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, board their leaky vessel in search of the treasure that will make all their dreams comes true.

In Japan One Piece currently airs on Fuji Television and has had a success that rivals even Dragonball. The popular series was licensed by 4kids in 2004 and debuted on the 4kidsTV line-up in Fall of 2004 before joining Toonami on April 23rd of 2005, where it currently airs at 10:30 pm.

.:Characters

Monkey D. Luffy - is always hungery for adventure or food, he aspires to find One Piece and become king of the pirates. His most cherished treasure is the old straw hat that was given to him by his idol Captain "Red Hair" Shanks. When he was a kid he ate the Gum Gum fruit and now he can stretch like rubber.

Roronoa Zolo - is an ex-pirate hunter who joined Luffy's crew after Luffy saved him from execution by the Navy. He aspires to be the greatest swordsman of all time in order to fullfill his life long promise with his friend Kunia who had an unfortunate accident and cannot continue her swordsmanship practices. After loosing a battle with Hawkeye Mihawk (the greatest swordsman on the sea), he vowed never to loose another duel. He's the ship's first mate and probably the most level headed of the crew.

Nami - is the Navigator of the crew and pretty much handles any captain-like duties because Luffy never does them. She has a strong distaste for pirates because of her mysterious past. She has joined Luffy's crew in order to make a map of the world.

Usopp - is the boy who cried wolf...er pirates. He likes to consider himself th Captain (despite Luffy already holding that role) but he mostly fixes stuff around and on the ship and is the crew's marksman. He's always ready to tell a tall tale or fabricate a real one. He joined the crew after helping Luffy, Zoro and Nami defeat the Black Cat pirates and save his friend Kaiya from her care taker the ex-pirate Captain Kuro.

Sanji - is the smooth talking and hard kicking cook of Luffy's crew. He joined the crew after Luffy crashed into the floating resturant where he worked. Sanji dreams of finding the mythical sea line called the Great Blue, where all of the creatures of the sea can be found. He also has quite a fondness of Nami and well... any pretty young thing that comes his way.

.:Misc.

  • In the 4kids dub there are several notable changes. In the Japanese version Zolo is known as Zoro. The Navy is actually the Marines and all the text related to the Marines has been replaced with "Navy". Several deaths have been edited out or modified in the dub version including the deaths of Bellemere and Kuina. Both of which are important to the development of Nami and Zoro respectively.

  • An uncut dub was reportedly in production, but has since been put on hiatus indefinitely.
