Gundam Wing
"In the distant future, mankind has reached the stars."
The year is After Colony 195, and the Earth has surrounded itself by orbiting space colonies. Tired of oppression at the hands of the corrupt Earth Sphere Alliance, key forces within the colonies have decided to fight back. Armed with state of the art mobile suits called "Gundams," each colony sends one young pilot to wage guerilla warfare against the Alliance and their elite military origination Oz.
Gundam Wing made its Toonami debut on March 6th, 2000. This date is especially notable because Gundam Wing actually premiered two versions on Toonami. The first broadcast at 5:30 pm and was edited to Cartoon Networks (then) current daytime broadcasting standards. The second aired at midnight and was uncut, a first for both Toonami and Cartoon Network. The first series of the Gundam franchise to be broadcast in North America, Gundam Wing’s popularity insured that the series received multiple runs on Toonami as well as several other Gundam series making their North American debut on Toonami in the following years. Unfortunately to date no other Gundam series has shared Gundam Wing’s immense popularity on Toonami.
