Cyborg 009

An Evil Organization named Black Ghost, who's goal is world domination, kidnaps 9 strangers from all over the world and converts them into Cyborgs with intents of turning them into "super soldiers" to assist their plot to conquer the world. Instead, the 9 cyborgs rebel against they're creators and join forces with the professor who helped build them in order to fight a war against the organization that tampered with their humanity, and changed their lives forever. The series was developed from Shotaro Ishinomori's 1964 Cyborg 009 manga. The comic reflected the conflict and harsh conditions during the Cold War, a topic of great importance at the time. Ishinomori is considered one of Japan’s greatest creators and made a large contribution to the world of TV heroes with the creation of well known live-action dramas such as 'Masked Riders', 'Kikaider', and 'Power Rangers', the 'Secret Warriors'. The first series of 009 cartoons started in 1968 and consisted of about 26 black & white episodes.

Cyborg 009 made its debut on Toonami on June 30th, 2003 and will be the first "NEW to CN" show on Toonami since Kenshin aired on March 17th 2003. The series practically came out of the blue, surpising fans everywhere, many of whom have never even heard of the series before. As of right now Cartoon Network only has 26 episodes which is about half the series.

.:Misc.

  • The art and design of the characters in Adult Swim's Kikaider may seem similar to that of Cyborg 009 because both series have the same creator.

  • During each remake of the series, a decision was made to keep the original designs and not improve or change them, which is why the characters always look extremely similar no matter what version of the show.

  • During it's initial broadcast on Toonami, the series ran unedited. Extremely mild language was allowed to slip under the radar. In subsequent re-airing of episodes, language was muted and various cuts were made for violent images.
