Batman: The Animated Series
When his family was killed by a criminal, young Bruce Wayne vowed to fight the villains in the crime abundant city of Gotham. Soon he became known as the one and only 'Batman', a vigilante known for his extreme stealth and 'charming' personality.Partnered with the young Robin, and the occasional Batgirl, the caped team continue their fight against the Riddler, the Joker, and many many more. In hope of bringing peace, order, and most of all, justice back to the dark and fearful city.
Created in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series was a near immediate hit with fans of animation and the caped crusader alike. The series introduced a new style of artwork to American animation, by using dark backgrounds. The series reintroduced classic characters from one of DC Comic's most lucrative franchises in a way most had not seen before. In 1995 the series ended after 85 episodes, but returned a few years later after popular demand and interested spawned from various sequels to Tim Burton's 1989 'Batman' movie, called "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" and "The New Batman Adventures". The new series featured many characters who saw little to no light in it's previous incarnation and reinvented others.
Batman The Animated Series graced Cartoon Network and Toonami in the year 2001, to much praise. Since it's time being syndicated on the network, several alternate universe series have been created, such as Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Teen Titans and Justice League. A handful of movies were also created, such as Batman - Mask of the Phantasm (which was released theatrically), Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero (Direct to Video), Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (Direct to Video) and even a Superman/Batman crossover movie which was also DTV.
