Astroboy
In the year 2000, humans and robots live together in peace in harmony. Dr. Tenma, the once head of the Ministry of Science, builds a robotic child in the likeness of his own deceased son, with amazing superpowers. Unable to fill the void of love his dead son left behind, Tenma discontinues the robot and burns down the Ministry of science disappearing into the night. Years later rebellious robots and corrupt evil have started to cause havoc in Metro City. The only being left to stop them is the newly activated Astroboy. Along with his unique gift of "Kokoro", various superpowers, and help from family and friends, Astroboy will stand to protect Metro City and return it to peace once again.
Based on the Original manga character from the popular comic book series of the 1950s, AstroBoy is a re-imagining of its predecessor series and manga, much like 2003's Cyborg 009. Created by Osamu Tezuka, AstroBoy (or Tetsuwan Atom as its known as in Japan) has delighted generations of the past, and more then likely generations of the future as well. The franchise has reinvented itself several times, having the series debut in 1963, re-released in 1980, and once again in 2003. The characters and story for Astroboy have been some of the most influential part of Japanese animation ever created. Astroboy premiered on Toonami Monday March 8th, 2004 at 5PM (EST).
