- Adult Swim Action kicked off on Saturday, February 23rd at 11pm and pulled from Cartoon Network's already standing library of shows, as well as a few which had never aired before. Shows such as Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star (both edited to Toonami standards), Pilot Candidate, Cowboy Bebop, and Inuyasha were the block's initial programs.
- The first Adult Swim Action block had very minimalist packaging, with mechanical backwards music and a computer voice announcing the shows.
- After loosing Saturdays, Adult Swim originally wanted to take back the day as a place to air Adult Swim movies. However, this eventually developed back into a Saturday night action block; which remains on the network to this very day
- Comedy shows are occasionally placed at within the block in order to help drive up sagging ratings of the action shows that follow. Action/Anime cartoons are notorious for low ratings, especially on Saturday nights.
